MALAYSIA LEADS REGIONAL YOUTH AGENDA AS
AIPA 2025 PRESIDENT
SHAH ALAM, 1 MAY – The Parliament of Malaysia will collaborate with the Selangor State Legislative Assembly to organise The 2nd Consultative Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (YPA). The meeting, which will be held in Klang, Selangor from 5 to 8 May 2025, will involve the participation of delegations of young parliamentarians from all ASEAN countries.
With the theme "Ensuring ASEAN's Future: Youth in Action for Sustainability and Inclusivity", this meeting reflects ASEAN's efforts led by the Parliament of Malaysia at the legislative level to develop a more inclusive, resilient, just and sustainable region through the empowerment of the younger generation.
This meeting will focus on strengthening youth participation in the policy-making process related to current issues such as bridging economic gaps, digital transformation and inclusive development. Young parliamentarians from ASEAN countries scheduled to participate in this meeting will hold discussions and submit proposals, which will be presented to the 46th AIPA General Assembly. This is in line with the specific objective of this meeting which aims to be a powerful platform for young parliamentarians to advocate inclusive and sustainable policies.
The meeting also underlines the importance of a strategic and inclusive approach to youth development. With investment in future skills, strong institutional support, and the creation of economic opportunities, ASEAN can fully tap into the energy and innovation of its youth to drive shared prosperity
The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) is an inter-parliamentary body that brings together the parliaments of ASEAN countries to strengthen regional cooperation through legislative diplomacy and policy exchange. Established in 1977, AIPA plays a role in supporting the implementation of ASEAN's goals on various issues such as sustainable development, security, trade, and youth empowerment. This year, the Parliament of Malaysia assumes the presidency of AIPA 2025, playing a pivotal role in steering an inclusive, sustainable, and people-centred regional agenda.
The opening ceremony on 6 May 2025 will be officiated by H.E. Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.)
